  • Organizers: This webinar is organized by The Future of Work, Labour after Laudato Si (FOWLS) global initiative and the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC). The Scalabrini Institute for Human Mobility in Africa (SIHMA), the East Cape Agricultural Research Project (ECARP) and the Centre for Research and Action for Peace (CERAP) are supporting the event.
  • Target Audience: Religious leaders, faith-based organizations, NGOs, civil society organizations, and general public  which have developed a community/membership base to engage their constituents for worship, charitable activities, development activities, support for members activities, especially in relation to labour and development in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Objectives

  • Share evidence-based and reliable information on the impact of COVID-19 on marginalized groups such as migrant and refugee workers, seafarers, informal workers and farm workers in the African region, and on the prevention of the virus transmission and responses to those affected by the virus, with a particular focus on prevention in the workplace, in informal settings, and the role of religious leaders, faith-based organisations, organised labour, and civil society groups in response to increased poverty, unemployment, involuntary reduction of work hours, and indecent work conditions in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Encourage knowledge and experience exchange benefitting from expert input community-based experiences related to such topics as:
  • Responding to the needs of affected individual workers, their families, and local communities, with special attention to populations with particular vulnerabilities (migrants, youth, homeless, among others).
  • Protecting/supporting co-workers and their families during the phases of prevention, treatment, recovery, and reintegration into community activities.
  • Supporting and sustaining organizations themselves in these difficult times.

 

Modality of the session

The webinar will be held in English with a French translation and will last two hours:

  1. Expert input will be delivered by an expert from the International Labour Organization (ILO) and an expert from the World Health Organization (WHO)
  2. Examples of faith-based and civil society responses also will be provided.
  3. Interaction among the participants and testimonies on the strategies and action plans implemented with regard to the impact and prevention of COVID-19.
  4. Question and answer session.
  5. Final thoughts.

  • Organisateurs: Ce webinaire est organisé par l’initiative mondiale L’avenir du Travail, le travail après Laudato Si (FOWLS) et la Commission internationale catholique pour les migrations (CICM). Le Scalabrini Institute for Human Mobility in Africa (SIHMA), le East Cape Agricultural Research Project (ECARP) et le Centre de Recherche et d’Action pour la Paix (CERAP) soutiennent l’événement.
  • Public cible: Les chefs religieux, les organisations confessionnelles, les ONG, les organisations de la société civile et le grand public qui ont développé une base de communauté/membre pour engager leurs électeurs dans le culte, les activités caritatives, les activités de développement, le soutien aux activités des membres, en particulier en ce qui concerne le travail et le développement dans le contexte de la pandémie COVID-19.

 

Objectifs

  • Partager des informations factuelles et fiables sur l’impact de COVID-19 sur les groupes marginalisés tels que les travailleurs migrants et les réfugiés, les marins, les travailleurs informels et les ouvriers agricoles dans la région africaine, et sur la prévention de la transmission du virus et les réponses à apporter aux personnes touchées par le virus, en mettant particulièrement l’accent sur la prévention sur le lieu de travail, dans des cadres informels, et sur le rôle des chefs religieux, des organisations confessionnelles, des syndicats et des groupes de la société civile en réponse à la pauvreté accrue, au chômage, à la réduction involontaire des heures de travail et aux conditions de travail indécentes dans le contexte de la pandémie COVID-19.
  • Encourager l’échange de connaissances et d’expériences en profitant de l’apport d’experts impliqués sur des sujets tels que
  • Répondre aux besoins des travailleurs individuels touchés, de leurs familles et des communautés locales, en accordant une attention particulière aux populations particulièrement vulnérables (migrants, jeunes, sans-abri, entre autres).
  • Protéger/soutenir les collègues de travail et leurs familles pendant les phases de prévention, de traitement, de rétablissement et de réintégration dans les activités communautaires.
  • Soutenir et pérenniser les organisations elles-mêmes en ces temps difficiles.

 

Modalités de la session

Ce webinar se tiendra en Anglais avec une traduction en Français, et durera deux heures.

  1. Contribution des experts par un représentant de l’Organisation Internationale du Travail (OIT) et un autre de l’Organisation Mondiale de la Santé (OMS)
  2. Exemples de réponses de la société civile et des organisations religieuses.
  3. Interaction entre les participants et témoignages sur les stratégies et les actions mis en œuvre en ce qui concerne l’impact et la prévention de COVID-19.
  4. Questions et réponses.
  5. Réflexions finales.
