Faith and Politics Workshop (19 September 2018, Venice)

Meeting report written by Jacques Palami (UNIAPAC)

Faith and Politics Workshop

From 19 to 26 August 2018, 29 participants and 7 organizers from 17 countries in and out of Europe joined together for the biennial Venice Faith and Politics Workshop. The workshop, first held in 2006, is a workshop organized by a network of Jesuits and associates through Europe.

Representatives from Italy, France, Luxembourg, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Hungary, Slovenia, Portugal, Lithuania, Malta, Switzerland, Chile, Brazil, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines gathered at the Residenza Universitaria Gesuiti di Venezia in Campo dei Gesuiti. The residence has been the home of the workshop since its inception, and 2018 saw its first edition with major participation from countries outside Europe.

The week-long workshop seeks to enable young adults from different parts of Europe to explore the interconnectedness of faith and politics, and to empower them to engage in public service for the common good in a world of contradictions. It is therefore an invitation to explore Christian engagement in public life.

Working on the learnings from the symposium, UNIAPAC took the opportunity to talk about the Future of Work, Labour after Laudato Si project to the participants. The Call for Contributions were distributed and shared, highlighting the research track that UNIAPAC is focusing on.
